| Screen Sizes and White Space |
| Different video cards have different capabilities for managing the display you look at on your monitor. Older cards are only capcable of displaying the screen at a size of 640 pixels by 480 pixels, while newer cards have no problems at much higher resolutions. Because of this, a lot of web design firms leave enormous amounts of white space to the right side of the web pages they design. Since we typically use 1024 by 768 resolution, when we view a site coded with this approach, almost half of the screen is blank - and it doesn't look much better in 800 by 600 resolution either. We design our sites with graphics that fit perfectly on an 800 by 600 screen size, and the body of the site self-adjusts to whatever screen size is available. The entire screen is filled with relevant data, and the user experience is further enhanced. |
